15 Injured After Stampede Erupts on Shenzhen Metro

Shortly before 8.30am this morning, a stampede erupted inside a Shenzhen metro carriage, leaving 15 commuters with minor injuries, according to Tencent News.

The panic occurred on a Line 7 train that was passing through Huanggangcun Station. An initial release on Shenzhen Metro's Weibo said that one of the passengers began running through the carriage for 'unknown reasons.' As often happens when you see someone running without cause, other commuters followed suit and pretty soon a stampede was underway.

Police and subway security guards were quickly notified of the bizarre incident, and staff eventually restored order on the train.

Of the 15 injured, nine were transported to hospital while six left the scene of their own accord.

Initial police investigation turned up the cause of the incident, which is still pretty bizarre: a passenger passed out onto the stampede instigator, alarming the unnamed individual and causing him or her to run for it.
