Remember the shipment of over 1,000 dogs that activists saved from the notorious Yulin Lychee and Dog Meat Festival last month? In our last update on the situation, the dogs were still being treated by volunteers in a makeshift shelter in Guangzhou.
Since then, after a heated confrontation in which some protestors threatened to kill the canines, the rescued dogs were relocated to other cities, including Shenzhen, where 60 dogs are receiving medical attention at a local clinic.
In order to raise funds for the pups, volunteers and activists are putting together an event this Sunday at The Brew in Futian District.
Animal lovers won't want to miss out, especially since the event features a 'doggie kissing booth.' Since all rescued dogs are still being treated, it'll be staffed by the canine pals of local pet owners, according to volunteer Peter Mikhail.
There'll also be live music, cupcakes and fun activities such as a photobooth and face painting. Dog owners are welcome to bring their pets over for an afternoon and evening of feel-good entertainment.
Proceeds go towards medical treatment for the rescued dogs in Shenzhen. To learn more about how to help (and if you'd like to adopt a dog), contact Dr. Pan on WeChat at ID 'doctor_dpan.' For Chinese-language service, add the WeChat of the Paws and Claws Clinic at ID 'pcv88888.'
Jul 16, 4-10pm. The Brew. See event listing.
