If you passed by a school in China around 8am on June 7 or 8, chances are you may have seen some middle-aged women waiting near the gates wearing anxious looks and... cheongsams?
The ladies were out in force across the country to cheer on offspring taking the incredibly difficult college entrance exam that's said to determine the course of one's life in China – also known as the gaokao.

On top of praying to Buddha for luck and renting out hotel rooms near exam sites, some Chinese moms have also taken to wearing cheongsam dresses, also called qipao, on test days to encourage better performance on exams.
Although it's too soon to see if it worked (scores won't be released for another two weeks at least), take a look at the Chinese moms across the country who rocked qipao dresses for the gaokao.
