Before 9am this morning, thousands of fish spontaneously gathered in the shallow waters near Shenzhen Bay Park. The sight of so many fish in one place attracted the attention of plenty of bystanders.
One was a man surnamed Zhang, who was taking his daily bike ride when he spotted the horde of sea creatures milling around.

Another of Zhang's videos shows a large black fish that stands out from the pack. According to Zhang, it looked to be an astonishing 1.2 meters long while others measured only three or four inches.
Zhang called the goliath a 'fish king' (in fact, you can hear him say it in the video). Smaller fish seem to follow in its wake, scattering when it abruptly turns around.

"Wow, this is a fish king, really a fish king."
In a later interview with Southern Metropolis Daily reporters, Zhang claimed there were "at least a few thousand" fish in the water at one point.
By 9.20am, although many fish had dispersed, there were still some left in shallow waters. They came in multiple colors and patterns.
Besides human bystanders, local birds were also present to reap the benefits of the apparently random phenomenon.
