Officials in Guangdong are reminding people not to enter septic tanks without masks and proper ventilation after six perished in a pig waste holding tank in Nanshan Village, near Chaozhou, according to Tencent News.
The heart-breaking incident occurred on May 13 at around 10am, when a farmer, surnamed Wang, asked his 16-year-old daughter to enter the tank to unblock a pipe.
Unfortunately, the girl never exited the tank after she fell unconscious from toxic fumes created by the untreated swine waste. Wang and his wife then entered the tank in an attempt to retrieve their daughter, but suffered the same fate.
The death toll, sadly, would not stop there, as two of Wang’s three sons entered the waste container, followed by a family friend, according to GRT Radio. The third brother went for help; he would be the only member of Wang’s immediate family to survive the ordeal.
All six people who entered the tank were later removed by authorities and pronounced dead at the scene.
