May 8-11: HOFEX tradeshow in Hong Kong

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, HOFEX, Asia’s leading food and hospitality trade show, is set to take people from the food and hospitality industry as well as attendees from all kinds of fields on an extraordinary culinary journey. This trade show is bringing the world’s most comprehensive selection of food and drink, hospitality equipment and supply products to Hong Kong.

May  8: Ladies' Night at X-Ta-Sea

They say that the best things in life are free, and X-Ta-Sea is making sure that stays true. They have their regular special running from Sunday to Thursday seeing women drink for free after 8pm on selected beverages. Plus some of Sea World's best live music. Cheap date anyone?

May 8: Buy One Get One Dinner at George and Dragon

Tuck into some hearty British fare – at half the price. The Monday 'bogo' deal is running at George and Dragon until late June and will see you spending half as much getting your fish and chips fill. Please note, the deal does not apply for steaks, but those meaty monsters will be 50 percent off.

May 9: Open Mic

Make a ruckus at Rucker this Tuesday with their weekly open mic. Sign up begins at 8pm and the chortling starts around 9pm. All languages, styles and skill levels welcome to use  the provided drum set, guitars, bass and keyboard.

May 9: Open Mic at McCawley's Futian

If one open mic wasn't enough, McCawley's Irish Pub Futian has you covered. House-band Harmony keeps the show going with their professional quality music while Shenzhen's undiscovered stars take to the stage.

May 10: Ladies night at Mojo

Mojo is continuing the Coco Park tradition of free drinks for women on Wednesdays. A trip to this happening club's main bar will see ladies receive mixed drinks or a 'MOJOito.' If you find out what that is, please tell us.

May 10: Red Scarf at B10 Live

Founded in 2013, the trio are active in China's avant-garde music scene where they employ an improvised style mixed with progressive folk. The band has collaborated with big names in Chinese music and has impressed audiences with each visit to Shenzhen.

May 11: Quiz night at Evil Duck

May 12: DJ Spencer Tarring at Dazzle Club

Celebrated DJ Spencer Tarring will bring some of the Shanghai sound that folks up north have been raving about since 2009.

May 12: Bass Night and DJ Takahashi with Bass Hoodie

Sector is rounding up south China's most prolific DJs for some UK-style bass music. Making use of one of the best club sound systems in Shenzhen, these DJs will give you solid dose of low-frequency delights.

In Sector's main room, you'll find the reservation only show by Bass Hoodie and DJ Ryoji Takahshi. Takahshi has hundreds of original productions, arrangements, and remixes under his belt and is one of few Japanese DJs to reach  the global stage. His original releases have been supported by popular radio shows, including on BBC Radio 1.

May 12: A-Cappella

    

Acclaimed worldwide for their virtuosity, life-affirming energy and charm, The King's Singers are in global demand. Their work, synonymous with the very best in vocal ensemble performance, appeals to a vast international audience. Performing to hundreds of thousands of people each season, the group tours regularly to Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australasia. May 12: Shanghai Restoration Project and Zhang Le

The Shanghai Restoration Project and Zhang will play a collaboration with artist Sun Yunfan, weaving together jazz, electronica and a dose of Taoist philosophy. The group is lead by Dave Liang, an Emmy winning creator and producer. Expect an original mix of hip-hop style with Chinese lyrics.

May 13: Mother's Day Fun for the Family

May 13 - June 13: The Chicanos Revolution Art show

The title of this show gives a hint to the rule-breaking and unexpected changes you will see in the most recent pieces of artist Ceet’s work. Moving away from his traditionally simple characters. His latest canvases will force viewers to seek out the ‘impressions’ of the chickens. Reserve in advance by phone (more information in event listing).

May 14: DJ Oliver Heldens at Face Club


Helden's career took off after being taken under the wing by Tiesto, who signed him to his label Musical Freedom. In 2015, he began producing bass house songs under the alias HI-LO. He is a future house pioneer, with 2014's track 'Gecko' leading to his break into the mainstream.
