Taxi prices will be rising across Shenzhen over the next three months as taxi meters are adjusted, according a Shenzhen Dajain Shi report.

There are several changes to the charging system, but most riders will notice that each kilometer after the first two will rise from the current current RMB2.4 to RMB2.6.

Under the new plan, the average taxi trip of 7.4 kilometers will cost an extra RMB1.09 in red taxis and cost an extra RMB3.85 in green taxis.

The current pricing system was set eight years ago, the report notes, meanwhile increased competition from ride-hailing apps and shared bikes have seen red taxi driver’s income drop by almost 20 percent since 2014, even with a subsidy of RMB1,000.

Green taxi drivers saw a whopping 55 percent drop in their salaries to only RMB2,399 per month before subsidy.

"I don't know if it will make a difference," said red taxi driver Xiao Bo Tan. "After they make the change we'll see."
