WATCH: Cargo Ship Rams Guangdong Bridge

On April 1 at 9.55am, a cargo ship loaded with nearly a thousand tons of goods rammed into the Lianxi Bridge, located in the Guangdong city of Zhuhai, causing considerable damage to the suspended roadway and forcing the evacuation of the vessel.

According to Tencent News, the direct hit on the bridge caused two portions of the bridge to separate by over a meter, as seen below.

Built 25 years ago, way back in 1992, the Lianxi Bridge is located in Zhuhai's Doumen District and is part of the 272 Provincial Highway. Last year, RMB7.21 million was invested in reinforcement work on the bridge.

The incident is a bit baffling, considering everyone watching (and filming) the ship's attempt to travel under the bridge most likely knew it was a bad idea, as seen in the video below.
