On the morning of January 22, Chinese New Year commuters along the Shaoguan section of the Leguang Expressway ran into a lengthy 5-kilometer traffic jam, according to a Guangdong News report.
The Yuebei toll booth, one of the stations exiting Guangdong northward, saw over 50,000 vehicles leaving the province on both January 19 and 20.
Driving from the Yubei toll to Lechang city in Hunan, a 50-kilometer distance, took over three hours. Worse yet, traffic in Lechang wasn’t much better when commuters arrived… as seen below:
A total of 112 minor road accidents were reported on January 20, and 97 on January 21. The Hunan and Shaoguang traffic police have been coping with the traffic jam and accidents, helping with the injured, pushing cars and providing hot water, according to Tencent News.
