By now, most residents of the PRD have probably heard about Typhoon Haima. If they're located in Shenzhen, they've noticed the torrential rain flooding the streets over the past few days. But the worst is yet to come: the brunt of the storm is expected to hit Shenzhen this afternoon. Authorities here are likely to raise the typhoon alert from blue to yellow, and even suspend school and work for the day. Transportation will also be affected, from the subway to intercity trains.
The Shenzhen Metro released an announcement yesterday that sections of some lines may be down on October 21. They advise residents to keep updated by checking the official Shenzhen Metro Weibo, WeChat, app, or the notices posted in subway stations.
The areas to be affected are largely on the outskirts of the city. They include:
Line 1: Hourui and Airport East (2 stations)
Line 3: Shuibei to Shuanglong (17 stations)
Line 5: Shenzhen North Railway Station to Tanglang (4 stations)
Line 11: Airport to Bitou (10 stations)

Most people living and working in central Shenzhen won't be too affected by the closings.
If you were planning to take a train today or tomorrow, though, you may have to adjust your plans. The Shenzhen North Railway Station has announced that all routes will be stopped this afternoon. A few trains may be affected on October 22 as well. If you've already bought a ticket for a train that's no longer running, you have 30 days to return it, either online or at the station.
Some routes from the Shenzhen and Shenzhen East train stations will not be running on the 21st either. They have a similar 30-day return policy, although you have to go back to the station to get your money.
In general, we advise everyone to take extra care today and tomorrow and stay indoors if possible.
