Jochen Miller is headed back to the PRD, performing in Guangzhou on Saturday, November 12! We caught up with him in anticipation of his Single’s Day weekend show in Guangzhou to chat Coldplay, Guangzhou and US presidential nominees Clinton and Trump.

The Dutch DJ last played in Guangzhou in early August and is notable in the electronic music scene for his high-profile performances at major festivals, including EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Miami, Tomorrowland and Kings Day.

You’re back Mr. Miller! Tell us a bit about this tour, is Guangzhou your only stop in China or will you be visiting other cities as well?
Glad to be back, had a wonderful time before! I will be paying Beijing a visit as well, so I’m really looking forward to coming to China again!

Any other countries in the region?
Yes, the performances in China are a part of my fall Asia tour, which will kick off in Vietnam and then take me to Jakarta, Malang and Hong Kong before I visit your beautiful country!

Your name is often dropped in the same sentence as Tiesto, Armin and Above & Beyond, what makes people connect so well with your work?
First off all, it is an honor to be named among these legends, thank you. And I think it’s the accessibility and emotion in my work that makes that connection. Making and playing music is my life and I think that love is something people can relate to, it’s our music, our passion…

Your Guangzhou concert falls on Single’s Day weekend, begging the question – are you single?
Single’s Day weekend, that’s cool! So I will be trying to have some singles fall in love while partying with me in Guangzhou, play the matchmaker! The matchmaker has already passed my place, so I’m spoken for….

If you had to sleep in the same bed as either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump for a year, who would you pick?
Oh wow, what a question. Preferably neither of them, but can I ask if their partners would be in the bed too? Because picking one gets easier if we involve the choice between Bill and Melania!

If you could only listen to three songs for the rest of your life, which three would you choose?
Well. There has to be a Coldplay song in that list, as I’m a huge fan. If I had to choose, I think ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ is my favorite. Then there’s a Dutch song by Marco Borsato called ‘Dochters,’ which is about the relationship between a dad and his daughter, a very beautiful song that gets me every time I hear it, because it’s so recognizable for me being the father of a girl. And of course I’d like to hear at least one of my own songs, maybe ‘Rotunda’ or ‘Lost Connection.’

Within your genre, who are your greatest influences?
That would be Armin, as he’s paved the way for every DJ in our scene and music style; he always knows how to come up with something new. And when it comes to electronic music in general I love to listen to Daft Punk, as they’ve always been so innovative and original.

Favorite rock band of all time?
Coldplay, without any hesitation! I’m in absolute awe of everything they’ve ever written and recorded.

Did you have a chance to explore the Guangzhou on your last visit?
I had the chance to see just a little bit of the city, unfortunately not enough! Last time, in August, I came in straight from Kuala Lumpur and I had to leave the day after, because I was recording the vocals for my collaboration with Andrew Rayel that week. I’m hoping there will be a little more time for sightseeing and wandering around town this visit, so I can explore this beautiful city and its exquisite cuisine to the fullest! And I’m hoping to get some nice suggestions on what to go see and do from the people in Guangzhou, I’d love to check out what makes you the proudest in the city!

Anything else?
A special thank you to both Xin Wang Group and Music Fest Asia for bringing me out again!
