October 10: Giovanni Guidi Trio
It's jazz festival season! Come out to hear the award-winning Giovanni Guidi Trio, whose 2006 album Tomorrow Never Knows received five stars in a review by the magazine Swing Journal. The band will present songs from its more recent album, City of Broken Dreams, at this show.

October 11: Red Scarf & The Thing
A modern Chinese folk band, Red Scarf presents a local twist on the classic genre of jazz, using lyrical anecdotes that reflect each member's character. After their show, The Thing, one of the world’s most successful contemporary jazz trios, will keep the night rockin' with hits from their latest album.

October 12: Malika Tirolien & Ay
A powerful stage performer, French jazz musician Malika caught the eyes and ears of Michael League of Snarky Puppy early on and was invited to perform as one of eight on the Grammy winning release Snarky Puppy’s 'Family Dinner.' Catch her live and enjoy a bonus performance by three-member Afro-Latin punk band Ay.

October 12: Daniele Martini Saxophone Experimental Solo

October 13: Vein and Jaron Freeman-Fox & The Opposite of Everything
The Swiss jazz trio Vein comes to Shenzhen this month with its acclaimed precision and some of the most complex, distorted and twisted passages ever seen in musical composition. After the exciting perfermance, Jaron Freeman-Fox & The Opposite of Everything will bring another stunning show featuring violin, clarinet, accordion, double bass and drums.

October 14: Kandy Guira Trio & The Shuffle Demons
A young singer who draws inspiration from her African roots, Kandy Guira will bring her enthralling voice to audiences this week with support from her band mates. The Shuffle Demons will take the stage after her performance, picking things up a notch with their enthusiastic stage presence and big band sound.

October 15: Shenzhen International Chess Open Tournament 2016
The Annual Chess Open Tournament returns this year with six rounds. Top winners will have a chance to play simultaneous games with world champions Ye Jiangchuan and Liu Shilan. Don't miss it!

October 15: Sinne Eeg
Danish jazz talent Sinne Eeg is a vocalist and composer who is considered to be one of the top performers in the Scandinavian jazz scene. Her spot-on intonation has won her Best Danish Vocal Jazz Album at the Danish Music Awards three times, in 2007, 2010 and 2014. Bringing her quartet to Shenzhen, Eeg will perform classic American jazz tunes by Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and more.

October 15-16: Let's Go Picnic!
Miss having picnics on a soft, grassy lawn? Shenzhen is finally starting to cool down enough for outdoor activities to be genuinely enjoyable. Head to Jinsha Bay this weekend and enjoy a tent market with snacks and a live ukulele show! Shuttle buses set off from Coco Park and Longgang Sports Center.

October 16: Travel Writer Greta Bilek @ Book Exchange
The Book Exchange, one of Shenzhen's largest community libraries, is back from the holidays with an exciting special event. Whether you love writing or just want to relive your vacation, this should make for a fun Sunday afternoon.

October 16: Lo’Jo & Korekyojinn
Founded in 1982, Lo'Jo (formerly Lo'Jo Triban) is a band of France-based musicians of various origins, performing and recording a blend of world music, with strong gipsy, North African as well as French folk elements. After their concert, progressive jazz rock band Korekyojinn will take the stage to end the night on a high note.
