Shenzhen’s Metro Line 7 and Line 9 are set open to the public at the end of October, once signal system testing and final equipment installations are completed, according to local government officials.

As part of phase three of Shenzhen’s subway development project, both lines will be completed two months ahead of schedule. The remainder of phase three’s new lines, 6 and 8, will be open by 2020 or earlier.

Line 7 will run from Tai'an to Xili Lake, whereas Line 9 will run from Hongshu Wan South to Wenjin.

A senior engineer from Shenzhen Metro explained on local television: “We actually have a lot of things to do before the start of operations. We need to finish work on metro exists, but we have confidence it will be ready on time.”

Shenzhen Metro’s proposal for phase four construction has been reviewed by the Chinese government and plots the continued development of the city’s transportation network. By the year 2030, Shenzhen Metro will offer 16 lines in total and, by the third quarter of 2018, commuters will be able to travel to Hong Kong in just 15 minutes via the high-speed railway service at Futian Station.

Authorities are also suggesting the construction of two additional high-speed railway stations in Qianhai and Xili, in order to offer Shenzheners a comprehensive public transit service.
