While last week’s Typhoon Nida failed to bring the mayhem that weather analysts and government agencies were predicting, a heavy bout of rainfall yesterday succeed in flooding parts of Shenzhen in waist-deep water.
The rainstorm rolled in yesterday (August 10) morning and prompted the Shenzhen Muicipal Meteorological Observatory to issue an orange warning at 8.55am. This was downgraded to a yellow warning around 10.35am.
At 1.30pm the yellow weather warning was called off.
According to Chinese media reports, Bao'an, Futian, Luohu, Nanshan, Longhua, Longgang and Guangming New District were all affected by the flooding.
A number of the images included in this roundup rekindle memories of Guangzhou’s last spell of flooding, which struck back in May. That particular storm saw submerged cars and metro entrances, Sea-Doos taking to the street and some extemporized fishing endeavors.
Now, sit back and enjoy this collection of photos from the set of Waterworld 2, starring Kevin Costner! Kidding, it’s just Shenzhen:
The pavement surface of Tong Hang Lu, Longgang District, hidden beneath a reported 20 centimeters of water.
Water, water everywhere and it’s brown and probably stinks...
Thirty centimeters of water in the interior of a Shenzhen city bus.
It’s difficult not to picture Kevin Costner in this image, floating around aimlessly on a raft, forever in search of dry land…
Not ideal driving conditions, to say the least.
