A 12-year-old girl from Dongguan is recuperating in hospital after a boy threw a 15-centimeter-long blade at the back of her head on May 16, according to South China Morning Post

The boy flung the blade at the girl after an argument with her friend, which occurred after school in a local park.

While the blade did penetrate a horrifying 3-centimeters into her skull, it luckily missed the delicate stuff (i.e. veins and arteries) and was removed in surgery. Some reports have stated that if the blade had punctured any further into the girl’s head, she likely would have died.

The boy’s father was called to the hospital after the surgery and paid RMB8,000 in medical costs. Further compensation is allegedly still being considered, according to reports.

Due to his young age, the knife throwing youth got off pretty easy (those under 14 are not criminally responsible in China) – simply receiving a warning from police.

The victim is still recovering in hospital and is expected to be released this week.
