Just when everyone thought this case couldn't possibly get any stranger, it goes ahead and does just that.

Reports have emerged that suggest murdered British lecturer Hilary St John Bower, 60, was killed and brutally dismembered due to a wildly complex love life – featuring a possible "three girlfriends." Despite confusing and often contradictory reports that have been released since his murder, That’s has learned that Bower’s 6-year-old son was shared with girlfriend Shi Xiumei.

According to a number of domestic media outlets, aside from Shi, Mr. Bower had relationships with three women that he drank with at Shenzhen nightclubs.

As reported yesterday, a girlfriend of Bowers, surnamed Xu, along with two others, have been arrested for his murder. Xu and the victim had allegedly dated for 17 years.

“Due to a dispute over their relationship, a 38-year-old woman surnamed Xu was unhappy with Hilary St John Bower and conspired with suspects (a man surnamed Sun, 28, and a man surnamed Liu, 23) to kill Bower in her apartment in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen on March 22,” according to a Weibo post from the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau’s Nanshan branch yesterday.

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Bower’s remains have been destroyed to the point that formal identification has still not been completed.

That’s spoke yesterday to a friend of Shi, who informed us that Xu turned herself in to police and confessed to the killing.
