A young woman made a tragic and life-ending decision on April 9, when she attempted to take a selfie next to a moving train, according to People’s Daily Online.
The victim was visiting a rose garden located in Foshan, a site popular with tourists to the area.
The incident occurred at around 12.10pm, when the 19-year-old woman was swept underneath the passing train. She allegedly ignored the train’s horn and the desperate pleas from those around her to move away from the tracks.
It has been suggested that despite the fact she wasn't standing directly in the train’s path, the force produced by the train's movement pulled her under the wheels, according to Daily Mail. The woman sustained serious head injuries (as you do getting sucked under a train) and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another tourist visiting the garden captured chilling images of the seconds before the woman died.
Selfie deaths are far from uncommon, with statistics showing that more people died last year taking selfies than were killed by sharks. Selfies have also been blamed for animal fatalities, including two peacocks that recently died at a zoo in Yunnan after being grabbed for selfies.
The death is being investigated by Foshan's railway police.
