A 40-year-old Zhaoqing woman infected with the deadly H5N6 avian flu has given birth to a healthy baby, according to Xinhua

The woman was diagnosed with the deadly bird flu at Zhaoqing No.1 hospital when she was 35 weeks pregnant. The baby was delivered on December 29 by caesarean section, one day before a 26-year-old Shenzhen woman succumbed to the same virus.

According to reports, the mother is still in critical condition due to the caesarean section and a lung infection.

Friends and family of the woman are being asked by doctors to take Tamiflu, an anti-viral flu drug, as a precautionary measure.
