Today’s Vintage Funk.“Rest assured that I want to keep the spirit of Street Funk alive, but lightly sprinkled with sugar!”. With that the man establishes his love for music and his eclectic streak.
When he is about 15 years old, Dabeull pursues musical studies with his neighborhood friends. Let’s attempt to reconstitute the scene : late night, sofas, just enough drinks, heated turntables. “I wanted to know everything, to understand everything…we would dissect discographies. Why use this type of compression, this reverb, who was doing arrangements, and, above all, which synthesizer was used?”. He was already obsessed with sound and dreaming of being big/Great. At home, no trace of French music, nor rock, but rather African music, and an unquestionable respect for Zouk music, a genre led by singer Jean-Michel Rotin whom he later collaborates with.
