Martins Licis spent the first few years of his life in Latvia, before moving with his family to Massachusetts. Back in Latvia, on his grandparents farm, Martins had always enjoyed lifting heavy things, but it wasn’t until his early teens that he began to take strength training seriously. Once, as a twelve-year-old, he got beaten up by a gang of drunk teenagers. It was soon after that that he decided that he was going to really apply himself to getting strong: no one would be beating him up in the future. In only couple of years, he was stronger than virtually anyone in the gym.
