Sex in Shanghai no longer 'toxic' thanks to seizure of millions of fake condoms

Three million counterfeit condoms were seized by police in Shanghai recently. The rip-off rubbers, masquerading as Jissbon, Durex and other well-known brands, were manufactured in Henan and then distributing to eight provinces and major cities across China. They cost RMB0.1 to make and were sold for RMB3, mainly in smaller, cheap hotels. According to police, they had nine distribution centers across the country.

Nine suspects were arrested including a woman previously convicted of selling fake Viagra in 2013. She said that had reentered the industry, selling copied contraceptives from her online shop, due to the impressive profits that could be made.

The quality of the phony prophylactics, produced in "highly unhygienic" conditions, is said to have been "very low," and the lubricant had a "nauseating" smell.

If that's not enough of a damper on the food, the sham sheaths were also found to have potentially "toxic" traces of heavy metals.
