The word 'ball' is not generally used to describe an average Friday night out in 21st Century Shanghai so get set for something different as theBALL, Shanghai's annual Viennese Ball is taking place on Saturday 13 June.

To ensure that Shanghai experiences the full authenticity of this rich, Austrian tradition, the finest talents are being flown over  from Vienna. They include the Schonbrunn Festival Orchestra, featuring violin soloist Lidia Baich, who won her first international competition aged 8 and vocal performances from Andreas Schager and Marcelo Cerno. To top it off, all of the evening's music will be conducted by Matthias Fletzberger, who was first accepted into the University of Music in Vienna age 5.

No expense will be spared to uphold the event's authenticity - from the cocktail reception, to the 5-course gourmet meal (meaning a strict dress code will apply). Men are asked to wear a white tie (tuxedo with tails) and women must be in floor length, ball gowns. So you really will be able to 'feel the part.' Please note that only debutantes will be in white gowns.

The schedule for the night will remain traditional as ever with the debutantes and their escorts opening the dance with a Polonaise. This is a ceremonial dance which opened court balls and royal functions from the 17th-19th Centuries and in combination with the beautiful setting of the Hyatt, you will transported to the height of baroque elegance. To fuse the two countries, old and new, the debutantes will wear a swarovski tiara, entitled 'Flower of Love', created by Chinese fashion designer Ye Mingzi. She is best known for her wedding dress creations for the Chinese elite so her creation will seamlessly link to the event's atmosphere. Expect an evening filled with endless twirling, exquisite dresses and luxurious food - an event that promises to make it as a social landmark for expats and Chinese communities alike!

The individual ticket price for the event stands at RMB1888 which includes a cocktail reception beginning at 6.30pm and then the formal dinner and dancing.

There is also a spectacular offer from the Hyatt on the Bund which is offering an 'Escape to theBALL' package. Among other things, this includes two tickets to the event, one night's accommodation in a river view room and breakfast for two. Priced at RMB5,500

// June 13, 6pm-late, RMB1,888. Hyatt on the Bund, 6393 1234x6890, email wentao.qian@hyatt.com for reservations.
