'Monsieur, wiz ziz story, you are really spoliing us'

A Frenchman has got himself into hot — or gradually boiling anyway — water after trying to jump a police checkpoint on an unlicensed scooter on Monday. When we say 'hot water' what we actually mean is prison.

Police say they gestured for the unnamed man and his female pillion to stop for a routine check during the morning rush hour, reports The Shanghai Daily. The man, however panicked, gave it some gas and turned his bike around, driving in the opposite direction - petit tabernac!!

One of the officers at the scene, surnamed Zhang (of course) said the man looked back at the police as he rode away at high speed. So French!

Unfortunately for (let's call him) Jean-Paul, the whole incident was captured on a surveillance camera and he was soon identified. Merde. A further probe determined his scooter was unlicensed.

When questioned later by police, the man claimed he had no idea he had been asked to stop. A bit like when Bill Clinton said he's never slept with Monica Lewinsky.

According to Zhang, the man’s refusal to agree to the check could be deemed as obstructing a public service, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 days’ detention or a fine of up to 200 yuan (US$32.50). For foreigners, the penalty might also include a reduction of their residence term, he said.

Unlicensed scooters and mopeds are not allowed in Shanghai, and their riders can be fined up to 200 yuan. Don't jump the police checks!!!
