Chinese New Year Greetings from Wellington

Wellington-1.jpg

This year, Wellington College International Shanghai sends out its warm Chinese New Year greetings for the Year of the Rabbit in the form of beautiful artwork by year 6 pupil, Daniel.

Here he uses ink to delicately render these beautiful rabbits with seasonal reds and greens signifying the turn of winter to spring.

Daniel has become Wellington’s go-to artist whenever it is time to celebrate traditional Chinese festivals, even creating works that have been auctioned in support of children’s charity, Stepping Stones.

The young painter has only been formally training for three years, and his works are stunning. The dedication and detail are a testament to Daniel’s talent.

Pac-man Fever Recess Game at Concordia

Exercise is not only good for your body it’s also good for your brain—boosting brain function, improving perception and reasoning, and preparing the brain for learning.

In the Pac-man Fever recess game, Concordia students spend the class period briskly walking and balancing along grid lines on the gym floor trying to avoid being tagged.

The students don’t realize they are improving their cardiovascular endurance as well as their brain function.

Spending time exercising with your children will help them develop good habits they can use for the rest of their lives. They don’t have to know that you are making them smarter in the process!

German School Shanghai Celebrates the Grand Togetherness

German-School-1.JPG

The second half of the term started from the second week of the lunar year. The lion dance teams rocked the Eurocampus Shanghai again, both professional and the students’ amateur lion dance teams.

On January 30, over two thousand children, students, and teachers from the German School Shanghai Hongqiao and Shanghai French School gathered at the Piazza, enjoying this Chinese tradition, amazed and amused.

The principals from both schools wished happy Chinese New Year and all the best! Xīn nián kuài lè, wàn shì rú yì!

German-School-2.JPG

For 28 years, German School Shanghai and Shanghai French School have been sharing campuses, projects, programs, activities, and spirits. The well-established Eurocampuses in Hongqiao and Yangpu make the exchanges easier. Every year on the week of January 22, a series of activities are carried out to celebrate the Élysée-Treaty signed six decades ago.

From joint breakfasts for the students and teachers at both schools, board games, treasure hunts, three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, designing Eurocampus T-Shirts, making certificates for the upcoming dodgeball tournament, brainstorming sessions (“How I wish for German-French friendship”) to the Eurocampus symphony orchestra performance, the activities were in full swing.

Even for the shy ones, the thoughtfully designed exercises helped break the ice quicky; after a little while, the students started talking to each other, opened up and were soon fully engaged in the exercise.

The inspiring speeches of Mr. Pit Heltmann, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Shanghai, and Mr. Joan Valadou, Consulate General of the Republic of France in Shanghai, also demonstrated their German-French "we-feeling" nicely.
