Forest School at NAIS Pudong

Nursery Dragonflies embarked on their first Forest School experience. The children were filled with curiosity, awe and wonder as they explored the woodland area. Using their senses, the children looked for autumn treasures and listened to the sounds of the forest. They were delighted to find some thick oozy mud to mark make in with sticks, some prickly pine cones, leaves of different shapes, colors and sizes and some super long branches.

In taking learning outdoors and into the forest, the children were more at ease and confident. They were able to develop their social skills and friendships, learn new language through hands on, meaningful experiences, solve problems, think critically, take risks, try new things, persevere and actively engage in their own learning.

What an amazing day of exploration and learning in the forest!

SCIS Kindergarten students took part in their annual Reading Parade! They celebrated the end of their first reading unit by proudly showcasing their favorite books through school. Students have been learning the value of looking closely at pictures to help learn about characters and settings in narrative texts, as well as learning more about foundational reading skills of letter sounds and familiar words.

Congratulations to these accomplished readers – reading rocks!

A Taste of El Dia De Los Muertos

IMG_9914.JPG

El Dia De Los Muertos is originally a Mexican tradition that has now spread to much of Latin America. It normally takes place from the October 31 to November 2, depending on the country. It involves family and friends gathering to pay their respects and to remember people who have died. El Dia De Los Muertos, however, celebrates death using a different concept: it tries to take a more humorous tone as people remember funny events and anecdotes about the departed.

There are many traditional activities connected with this very important day, which include honouring the deceased using calaveras (representations of skulls) and flowers, building home altars called ofrendas with the favorite foods and drinks of the departed, or visiting their graves with these items as gifts. The celebration is not solely focused on the dead, however, as it is also a celebration of life and appreciation for the people you love.

At NAIS Pudong, they decided to give a taste of El Dia De Los Muertos to their Year 6 students!
