Cultura Barbershop opened in Putuo in 2016 and quickly became known for its top-notch services, professionalism and classy cuts. Founded by Paul J.C., an international master celebrity barber from Canada with 22 years of experience in the industry, the parlor is also home to a barber training school to continue to grow the barbering culture across Asia. In eight years, Paul has trained over 400 students, spread across 12 countries.
With well-trained and qualified barbers, men with all types of hair from different backgrounds have come from around the city for a trim, a shave or a style by the knowledgeable and friendly staff. Considered one of Shanghai’s finest hair grooming spots, Cultura is a go-to destination for celebrities visiting town to spruce up their look before a show, sporting event or concert.
Upon entering the shop, it’s hard not to notice the celebrity snapshots that cover the walls, along with basketball merchandise and high-end liquor bottles. Paul has cut hair for everyone from Ice Cube to Soulja Boy to Kemba Walker to Stephan El Shaarawy, and has collaborated with brands like Chivas, Jaguar, Converse, Lululemon, Big 3 League Basketball and Heineken.
On January 13, Cultura opened its second set of doors in Shanghai, this time at 271 Kangding Lu, across from Shankang Li in Jing’an. The grand opening is slated for late March. The new digs are bolder and better, with four barber chairs, an outdoor patio and a chill vibe that makes you want to hang out all day. Expect free flow whiskey, gin and beer on tap, and hip-hop, with funky tunes playing across the new sound system. Until Chinese New Year, all cuts are discounted for new clients.
