It was a modest beginning – starting off as a cozy coffee shop, Le Cafe des Stagiaires has stood the test of time and become the oldest French-inspired bar in Shanghai. In honor of this achievement, the Le Cafe des Stagiaires’ team is welcoming everyone to join their anniversary party on Saturday, November 14. It’ll be a marathon of French food, drinks and the bon vivant party vibes Le Cafe des Stagiaires is known for!
It was a crazy, yet fun journey to reach this anniversary. Le Cafe des Stagiaires first opened on Yongkang Lu on November 11, 2011. Soon thereafter, pastis and champagne endlessly flowed down that now forgotten street. The crowds grew as the food menu developed, making it a bar and restauranant landmark on the Shanghai nightlife scene. With this success, the founders decided to expand, with a second location on Wuding Lu in 2012 and a third location on Dagu Lu in 2013.
Having successfully inebriated a large portion of Shanghai’s partygoers aross those three venues, the founders turned their eyes elsewhere in Asia. The next stop for the burgeoning Stagiaires empire would be Bangkok, where they opened their first location outside of China in July 2015.
Utilizing the winning recipe from their Shanghai experience, and with the established support of the French community there, they further shared the chic French concept of Stagiaires to expats and locals in the Thai capital. Success in southeast Asia continues with the expansion of a new Stagiaires in Ho Chi Minh, which is set to open this coming weekend.
Of course, there are always challenges along the road to success. After all the bars on Yongkang Lu were shuttered in August 2016, Stagiaires finally settled into their current spacious abode on Julu Lu in the cavernous Found 158 property on April 15, 2017.
Throughout the years, Stagiaires has been beloved by countless residents, expats and tourists alike, and continues to dominate the nightlife scene. The only way to celebrate Stagiaires’ 9th anniversary is to do it the French way, bien sûr!
Le Cafe des Stagiaires will start off the day with a lovely French brunch including a 2-hour drinks free flow for RMB158. Happy Hour will be extended from 4-8pm. Plus, a long lineup of DJs, including DJ Tys, Ziko, Makkk, LBTX, Sarfat, Tofu, Solo and Skinny Brown, will be setting the party mood during the day and late into the night.
