OKRA is hosting a fundraiser this Saturday, August 22, with 100% of the proceeds from jewelry sales go directly to Eco Sud and the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation, two NGOs that are working round the clock to clean up after the MV Wakashio oil spill that occurred on July 25 off the island of Mauritius.
When a tanker holding 4,000 tons of oil hit the once pristine reef off the scenic island’s coastline, Mauritius was forced into a state of environmental emergency. Oil surrounded the island and drained into the Indian Ocean, home to a fragile ecosystem with rich biodiversity, including thousands of species of coral, fish and turtles.
Help out by purchasing a unique piece of jewelry at the event held from 2-8pm at OKRA, or by donating directly through a QR code on their WeChat account. Find out more here.
