It started off deep, deep underground on Wulumuqi Lu in 2012. It moved slightly less deep underground at Found 158 in 2017. And now, sadly, Arkham it is going to that great gig in the sky. Damn you, 2020...
Plenty of good times were had along the way (see if you can spot yourself at the the Found 158 venue opening party), with shows from big names including two of the A$APs – ROCKY and FERG – Jaden Smith and Skrillex, while Stormzy was all set to play there before the youknowwhat ruined everything for everybody.

Here's what they had to say via their official WeChat account:
“Biggie once sang ‘It was all a dream’. As we proudly announce that Arkham is closing down next weekend after 7 YEARS DOING IT, that is how we feel. It has been a dream to serve you, Shanghai, by shaping the alternative music culture here one night at a time. Giving a platform to local emerging artists, supporting local rising stars and bringing global icons to China for the first time.”
There is a big party this weekend, Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16 from 9.30pm, when everyone is invited to drink the bar dry and party late, late into the night.
