Nanyang Lu Blind Pig, Big Bamboo of Lore Closes Due to COVID-19

Another day, another Shanghai F&B death. This time it is the institution that is 132 Nanyang Lu, which most recently housed The Blind Pig and Pistolera. Let’s be honest, though – in the heart of many a Shanghai Old Timer, it was, is and always will be the Big Bamboo, and it is in our hearts that it will have to live on. The reason... do we even have to say?

The statement from True Legend Hospitality Group:

“It is with a heavy heart we announce that due to the impact of COVID-19 True Legend Hospitality Group has made an incredibly difficult business decision – after 15+ years of operation – to close down our venue at 132 Nan Yang Lu that has featured Big Bamboo and most recently The Blind Pig and Pistolera.

We are closing permanently the Legend & Co. venue on Nanyang Lu effective Saturday April 25.

This decision will enable us to reduce our footprint and to be able to put much more focus on the five remaining venues we will continue to operate. We welcome our guests to Pistolera – choose your location – Hengshan Lu, Jinqiao or Laowaijie and the long running Big Bamboos in Hongqiao and Jinqiao. We are committed to continue to present exceptional experiences at all the venues as serving you great food, beverage and providing friendly, efficient service is what we have taken the pleasure of doing for over 16 years.

Down, but not out – look for a new True Legend venue in the Jing’an area again in the not too distant future.”

You can find listings for True Legend’s open venues in our directory, be it a Pistolera or a Big Bamboo.

Finally, they are going out with a bang, with a big party on Friday night, with free drinks from 8-10pm, happy hour until late, food 50% all night and DJ Paninaro spinning the wheels of steel.
