In our monthly series 'Getting Moderately Deep With... ' we ask a food vendor tough questions. Well, sort-of tough.

This month we meet Lin, a waiter at a coffee shop in Tsinghua University.

What is your idea of the perfect day?
Having a productive day at work!

What is the first thing you thought when you woke up this morning?
I thought about food [laughs]. I had baozi – not from the canteen at Tsinghua though.

Who is your best customer?
Everyone!

Which living person do you most admire?
Jack Ma, because he does not worry about what others think about him.

How are you feeling today?
I’m feeling quite happy, because sales are going well.

When and where were you happiest?
When I worked in Qingdao. People were really kind there, which made work less tiring.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I’d want to be able to play the piano, because I think it sounds super beautiful and I also want to have long and slim fingers [chuckles].

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Hm… nah, I don’t have any yet.

If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
I want to live a healthier life; by healthy life I mean sleeping and waking up early. Lately, I’ve been on my phone all the time, so I need to start controlling myself more.

What is your most treasured possession?
Not a possession, but my mom. I love her so much and she loves me. I only get to see her seven or eight times a year. I know it’s a luxury for some people, but I still wish I could see her more often.

What trait do you most value in a person?
Honesty.

What is it that you most dislike?
When people choose not to get out of their comfort zone.

What is your motto?
“Nuli gongzuo zhencheng dairen” which translates to “Work hard and be kind.”

What always makes you laugh?
Joking around with my friends.

Which era of Beijing’s history would you most like to have lived in?
I’d say now, because everything about life is so much more convenient. It’s hard to imagine living life without all the technology we have today.

Who is your hero?
My cousin. He’s a competent worker and also a very kind man.
