Aug 28-Sep 1: Madagascar: The Musical

While everyone may still be going crazy over that Lion King remake, we kind of prefer the Madagascar films. The comedic animation makes its way to the stage this month in the form of a thrilling musical. Perfect for the kiddos.

Aug 29: DJ CID

Aug 29: Boxing Cat Brewery Xintiandi Grand Opening Party

Roll up, roll up. The newest addition to Shanghai’s Boxing Cat Brewery is opening this Thursday at Xintiandi. Tickets are available at the door and will set you back RMB128, but include three beers and snacks. What a bargain! Don’t miss out, and get your weekend up and running at this boozy evening.

Aug 30: The Sulis Club

Hong Kongers The Sulis Club team up with Nerve Passenger for an evening of blistering good rock music. The Sulis Club have been building a steady reputation as one of the fiercest and best known proponents of alternative rock music in the Fragrant Harbor over the past few years, with a reputation for stellar and energetic live shows.

Aug 30: Kiefer

Previously hailed as the best kept secret in jazz and alt rap by Bandcamp Daily, LA-based multi-instrumentalist Kiefer’s show in Shanghai might well be the city’s best kept music secret this month. Having previously performed on a track with Kaytranada, as well as providing production for Anderson Paak’s album Oxnard, Kiefer ain’t no one to mess with.

Aug 31: Checkpoint! 2019 - Shanghai Community Gaming Fair

Checkpoint!, now in it's third year, returns for a one-day gaming event on Saturday, August 31 at The Boxx in Xujiahui. Their locally produced gaming fair aims to foster and grow the Shanghai gaming community by hosting independent games, board games, workshops, talks and VR demos. This play-centric event is designed to bring gaming back to the real world and connect people together under a shared passion of games. The best part? It’s completely free.
