Blockchain is now one of the hottest buzzwords in China’s tech world, as companies old and new are striving to apply the technology originally at the base of the bitcoin boom to a range of new areas, from finance to the arts.
Understandably, a growing number of Chinese citizens want to know more – and from now on, they won’t have to look too far.
People’s Daily, the leading newspaper of the Communist Party of China, has now launched their own ‘Blockchain Academy,’ a collection of classes all about the breakthrough technology, available on their online learning platform, as reported by 36Kr news.

The free lessons, designed to reach a large non-specialized audience, have the goal of “improving learners’ ability to research, implement and share knowledge about blockchain,” as explained on the official page of the course. Lessons are divided into two groups: one covering the theoretical and technological bases of blockchain and the other focused on concrete applications.
Realized in partnership with FISCO BCOS, a Shenzhen-based open consortium chain aiming to “create a secure and controllable blockchain platform that meets the requirements of the financial industry,” the course features classes taught by prominent figures in the blockchain industry, and cover various subjects from the application of the technology to discussions on smart contracts.

The creation of this new blockchain-focused learning platform on People’s Daily’s website confirms the relevance of the technology for Chinese authorities, who called it “10 times more valuable than the internet.” President Xi Jinping also praised the technology in May last year during a speech at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
