As millions of people are abandoning Shanghai to spend Chinese New Year with their families, many of the city's favorite food spots will unfortunately be closed. But those staying in town and wishing to have a real Spring Festival feast don't need to worry. We have gathered the best food events taking place during the holiday, so that everyone can celebrate this wonderful time of the year together with their loved ones.

The Peninsula Shanghai

Sharing a sumptuous reunion banquet with family and friends is a highlight of the Spring Festival holiday. On Chinese New Year's Eve, the team at two Michelin-starred Yi Long Court will prepare two delicious eight-course menus. The 'Longevity' menu includes delicacies such as snow pea shoots with red King Crab and Cantonese-style roasted chicken. The slightly pricier 'Treasure' menu lets you enjoy gastronomic delights such as braised sea cucumber with caviar in golden mushroom broth and steamed sliced grouper inn light soy sauce.

Waldorf Astoria Shanghai

Treat your colleagues, clients, friends or family to a Spring Festival feast in the intimate atmosphere of Wei Jing Ge's private dining rooms. The chefs at this Waldorf Astoria restaurant are preparing an exquisite eight-course menu including dishes such as baked sea urchin with lobster, braised abalone with carrots, steamed spotted grouper and seared Australian beef. As a special treat, enjoy a complimentary traditional Yu Sheng, or 'Prosperity Toss' dish for good fortune in the upcoming Year of the Pig.

Hyatt on the Bund

Aroma at Hyatt on the Bund welcomes the Year of the Pig with an extensive buffet featuring sumptuous international selections prepared in eight open concept kitchens. Make sure to book your table 36 hours in advance to enjoy this fantastic Spring Festival feast!

The Westin will be celebrating Chinese New Year at two of its restaurants this year. You can indulge in a spectacular dinner buffet on Chinese New Year's Eve at The Stage while participating in a lucky draw and watching live performances.

You can also enjoy a festive set menu dinner at The Crystal Garden all throughout the week. The dinner on Chinese New Year's Eve (Feb 4) has already sold out, so be sure make your reservations as soon as possible for the remaining available dates! You can book a table for groups of six or ten people and enjoy some braised asparagus with crab meat sauce, braised duck with sticky rice and many other dishes included in this sumptuous feast.

Chinese restaurant Sui Tang Li – at The Middle House  – is the latest shining star on the Shanghai food map. Showcasing a contemporary twist on the Chinese culinary experience, Sui Tang Li is an ideal spot for a 2019 Spring Festival dinner. They have prepared special festive menus for groups of six and ten people, including dishes such as crispy fried duck with pancake spring rolls, steamed red spotted grouper and their star dish, Poon Choi.
