Well, that was fast. Amidst the onslaught of international chains entering the Shanghai dining scene, HMSHost has called it quits for P.F. Chang's and five other brands also located on the eighth floor of Shanghai No. 1 Department Store. Also among the fallen are Bistro No. 1, Crystal Jade, Crystal Jade Express, Mango Chili and Sushi Groove.

HMSHost signed the lease contract with the department store on May 2017 with the intention of bringing four successful international brands and four well-known local brands to the People's Square neighborhood. Two concepts of the original eight remain in business: Jones the Grocer and The Dining Room.
P.F. Chang's started serving their unique style of American-Chinese (or is it Chinese-American?) food officially on April 26, 2018, see our preview here.
Ultimately, the decision to shut things down came down to profit.
As per their official statement:
After one-year operation in China downtown market, we think it's a time to adjust our downtown portfolio by keeping those [that] are with great potential in China and [go] back to our routes [sic] to be more focus on the travel venues with newly awarded 15 stores in both Beijing Daxing and Shanghai Pudong International Airports.
Does that mean their might actually be decent food in the airports soon? Only time will tell.
