That's Shanghai takes a look at the best concerts on this week.
Nov 21: Owl City

The bubbly boy of synth-pop's Owl City is bringing all his beeps, boops and bops to The Benz's smaller venue, The Mixing Room. He'll be playing two shows, so you can catch him and all his fireflies back to back if that's your thing! Tickets ain't cheap though.
Nov 20-21, 8pm, RMB680. The Mixing Room, see event listing, buy tickets.
Nov 22: Rachael Yamagata

James Taylor, Carol King, Roberta Flack - you can easily hear the impact these artists had on singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata. A mainstay on the Chicago club circuit, with friends like (and features on the albums of) Jason Mraz, Ray Lamontagne, Ryan Adams and Conor Oberst, she's proven herself to be a musician's musician time and time again. Beautiful, tragic, stripped down, if you're looking to spend your Thursday night in tears (the good kind), then you'll want to find yourself at Mao Livehouse.
Nov 22, 8.30pm, RMB280 pre sale, RMB380 door. Mao Livehouse, see event listing.
Nov 23: Jay-Jay Johanson

Jazzy vocals, trippy film-noir arrangements, this Swedish songwriter is hitting Mao Livehouse for a downbeat, trip-hop show unlike anything we’ve seen out of Scandinavia. He’s been perfecting his sound and his act since the ‘90s, so it’s bound to be a good one.
Nov 23, 8.30pm. RMB160 pre sale, RMB200 door. Mao Livehouse, see event listing, buy tickets.
Nov 23-24: Nu-Queens Saga
Flyer courtesy of Ink Sight Group.
SHAKE keeps funkin' into the future, with a concert dedicated to the women pushing funk and soul steadily forward. The club's six-piece band and guest singers interpret the music of Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone and more at this show and dance party. Supper club vibes from 6pm; live music from 10.30pm. Futuristic nu-attire encouraged.
Nov 23-24, 10.30pm, RMB80. Shake, see event listing.
Nov 24: Subland Afternoon Sessions - Ale Amazonia
Newly opened Subland sees the second of their unplugged afternoon sessions with Ale Amazonia of Dirty Fingers. The musician, composer and producer from Brazil has become well known on the punk curcuit, so swing by this creative hub for something a little more intimate and stripped down than we're used to seeing from him.
Nov 24, 4pm. Subland, see event listing.
Nov 24: Feeder
Feeder released their first album back in 1997 and went on to become one of the most successful bands their hometown of Newport, Wales had ever seen. With 10 studio albums, 12 compilations, four EPs and 40 singles, they’ve authored an extensive library over the years, despite their two-year hiatus.
Nov 24, 8pm, RMB380-880. Bandai Namco Shanghai Base, see event listing, buy tickets.
Until Nov 25: John Chin Trio with Sasha Masakowski
Flyer courtesy of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Celebrate the spirit of New Orleans with the John Chin Trio and Sasha Masakowski, playing now until the 25th. Her sultry, classic voice alongside the New York Jazz staple is sure to make for a swingin' time. BYOB (bring your own beignets).
Nov 20-25, 7.30pm and 9.30pm, RMB110-200. Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, see event listing.
