Hunter Gatherer Introduces Healthy Juices Made From Ugly Fruit

Hunter Gatherer has made waves in China with its farm-to-table mission that celebrates real food. Now it’s taking things one step further by highlighting the cause of ‘ugly fruits’ – fresh produce that is thrown away by farms simply because it looks a bit different. Just because fruits and veggies are ‘ugly’ doesn’t meant they can’t be transformed into beautiful and delicious fresh juices.

With their new 'Ugly Fruit' juices, Hunter Gatherer is proving that high-quality food is about more than just appearance. Joining them on this mission are best-selling gourmet author Joyce Ling (official WeChat account @wikicookjoyce) and fashion and lifestyle blogger Hailey Xue (official WeChat account @sugarandspice). Hailey and Joyce have crafted their own juices as part of Hunter Gatherer's collection of five seasonal offerings.

Joyce has crafted a vegetable juice designed to relieve pressure. Meanwhile, Hailey created a vibrant pink fruit juice that evokes the delicious taste of summer and has skincare properties to boot!

In addition, Hunter Gatherer has invited Ton Mak, the artist behind Flabjacks, to design quirky illustrated characters for the ‘ugly fruits family.’

“One-third of fruits and vegetable are wasted every year worldwide simply because they look a bit ugly. I believe we can improve the situation by changing people’s minds,” says Anmao Sun, co-founder of Hunter Gatherer.

Hunter Gatherer operates their own organic farms, so they know from firsthand experience that fresh but not-so-pretty fruits and vegetables are the first to be tossed aside based on their looks. However, the truth is that they are no different from perfect-looking fruits and veggies when it comes to nutrition and taste. According to Hunter Gatherer, it’s is high time that ugly fruits and vegetables were brought back to the dining table in order to break this awful cycle.

As part of their new juice release, Hunter Gatherer is featuring several ‘ugly fruits and vegetables’ as key ingredients for this season’s blends.

The Juices

The Daily Routine

Containing carrots, apples, ginger and lemon, The Daily Routine tastes like sweet carrots, potent ginger and tangy lime. Not only does it taste great, but it's rich in all kinds of vitamins.

Pink Punch

Pink Punch uses dragon fruit, oranges, apples and fresh ginger to create a rosy vitamin C bomb. The sweet and sour burst of apples comes first, follwed by the mellow hint of dragon fruit.

Sunshine Daydream

The flavors in the honey-colored Sunshine Daydream are created by sweet potatoes, oranges, apples and mangos. Because sweet potatoes and mangos are both naturally thick, they add the indulgent experience of a smoothie to this juice.

Peace of Mind

Peace of Mind by food columnist Joyce Ling is a mixture of celery, carrots, green apples, parsley and dragon fruit. This juice can help to lower blood pressure and serves as an antidote to anxiety.

Sweetheart

The rosy-pink Sweetheart is sweet and refreshing, radiating with the summer vibes of peaches, grapefruits pears and strawberries. The Sweetheart, created by fashion blogger Hailey Xue, offers a fruity burst of flavor and is the prefect reprieve from the scorching summer heat. Not only is this juice chock full of vitamin C but it's great for your skin.
