Shanghai may have been spared from a direct hit by Typhoon Yagi, but it looks like yet another typhoon may hit Shanghai later this week. Typhoon Leepi is currently brewing near Japan. The storm formed roughly 800 km north of Guam early Sunday morning. The system is expected to continue northwest and hit Japan and China later this week.
Leepi is expected to make landfall in southern Japan as a tropical depression on Tuesday evening. The storm will likely hit eastern China at some point on Friday August 17.
According to current projections (pictured above), it is likely that that the storm could hit Shanghai. However, it is still too early to tell.
Shanghai has been impacted by three storms in the past month -- Typhoon Ampil on July 22, Typhoon Jongdari on August 3 and, most recently, Typhoon Yagi on August 12.
Although Yagi did not hit Shanghai directly, it did cause heavy rainfall in the city on Sunday evening, according to Shine.
