The 2018 adidas Republic of Sports Arrives in Shanghai

In what has already been a remarkable summer of sports, adidas went even further last week at the opening ceremony of the 2018 adidas Republic of Sports in Shanghai. Over the past two months, adidas’ Republic of Sports has ignited the passion for sports across the country. They kicked things off in Beijing last month before visiting Guangzhou, Chengdu and, finally, Shanghai.

At the opening ceremony on July 27, adidas was joined by several of its global creators, inspiring the audience to experience the creative power of sport and setting the stage for three weeks of sporting action in Shanghai.

adidas global creators, including international supermodel Karlie Kloss and Chinese women’s volleyball star and Olympic champion Hui Ruoqi, attended the opening ceremony at Xintiandi’s Taipingqiao Park. Together with the adidas senior management team, they launched the 2018 adidas Republic of Sports Shanghai.

As part of the 2018 Republic of Sports, adidas has created a 24-day summer sports festival for sports lovers in Shanghai. Included in the program will be a host of exclusive activities and performances. On July 29, national professional athletes and young amateur athletes participated in a men’s high jump performance as part of the China Athletics Street Tour 2018.

On August 4-5, four elite basketball teams will compete in the ultimate showdown in the #DeathMatch Summer Ultimate Basketball Fight. And from now until August 19, a selection of secret guests will give their thoughts on topics such as philanthropy, cooperation, culture and sports during conversation sessions called TALKs.

adidas SPEEDFACTORY will also make its China debut as a key feature of the 2018 Republic of Sports Shanghai. SPEEDFACTORY is the future of how adidas creates. Additionally, adidas 2018 Republic of Sports Shanghai also features interactive activities such as the MakerLab, Run for the Oceans, High-Energy Shootout, Fight to the End, Battle on the Water and The Brave Climber, as well as sports courses including a freestyle football workshop, the #ExerciseThisWay creativity workshop, a Death Match workshop and an introductory course to rock climbing. These courses cover the range of adidas product series – football, basketball, training, running and outdoor – helping visitors explore these sports in a whole new way.

An Originals Party will also be held in Shanghai, unleashing their unique creativity to inspire new trends in street fashion. Through these platforms, adidas aims to further encourage Chinese consumers to be creative, incorporate sports into daily life and experience the life-changing power of sports.
