You may think finding cockroaches in your drinks is unpleasant enough. But a customer's experience at 85°C, the renowned bakery chain in Shanghai, has proved you never really know what you're going to find in your drink.
On June 25, a customer named Chen ordered three cups of bubble tea at the Chengshan Lu outlet of 85°C. When Chen was finishing one of the drinks, she felt something unnatural in the cup. When she took a closer look, she found a AAA battery among the red beans and tapioca pearls, Sohu reports. "Do they wish to help me supplement electrolytes by doing this?" asks Chen.

Full of rage, Chen took the bubble tea with the 'special' ingredient back to the outlet immediately. To her great disappointment, the manager merely offered to settle the incident by compensating her 10 times the original price of the bubble tea (equating to approximately RMB100).
"It's hard to believe a famous bakery chain could have done something like this," complains Chen. "Moreover, batteries are toxic, and I have drunk most of the tea. God knows what it will do to my body." Since Chen had to catch a plane that night, she failed to reach a common ground with 85°C.

"We checked the surveillance of the outlet at once and found no batteries," Wang, the Public Relations manager for 85°C, told Xinmin. "Besides, the customer ordered the bubble tea through the delivery platform, so there is no guarantee that the battery came from our outlet." Until now, there hasn't been an official statement made regarding the issue.
This incident is not the first to bring 85°C in the spotlight for food safety issues. In March, the bakery was fined RMB150,000 for using meat floss powder, rather than genuine meat floss, when making their bread.
