For nearly ten years, Bistro Burger on Fumin Lu has been our go-to location for award-winning burgers and milkshakes in a fun and casual setting.
Over the years, Chef Joe has added a number of well-received comfort food mains and starters such as Lobster Macaroni & Cheese, Grilled Beef and Artichoke Risotto and Crab Cakes that form the backbone of an updated American-style bistro menu while the burger list has been condensed to nine solid choices.
Seafood appetizers such as the Marinated Seared Tuna (RMB88) with inventive additions such as fennel and a vibrant squiggle of yellow bell pepper sauce or the refreshing Tiger Prawn Cocktail (RMB 58) are highlights.
The ultimate burger choice here has to be the enormous Truffle & Brie Beef Burger (RMB158) with a decadent French truffle sauce, satisfyingly funky brie cheese and slices of Yunnan truffles topping a freshly ground grass-fed Australian M3 beef patty cooked medium rare for peak juiciness.
It might seem crazy to add a milkshake to this meal, but your tastebuds won’t mind the chocolate, almond and marshmallow in the nostalgic Rocky Road (RMB50) milkshake one bit. Or you could always go for a spiked milkshake!
Bistro Burger has also installed a bar at the entrance making this an ideal neighborhood cocktail stop. They have created a variety of classic cocktails as well as a few surprises utilizing ingredients such as Maotai rice wine, fermented pineapple juice and basil leaves. Plus they have free flow happy hour every single day for one and a half hours between 11am-7pm. We recommend frozen margaritas (lemon, strawberry or mango) or Coronita for the ultimate summer cool down. How fun does that sound?
Standout cocktails are tart yet herbal Passionfruit & Basil Smash (RMB68) and Apple & Aperol Spritz (RMB55) that is a fruity take on an aperitivo standard.
Beyond food and cocktails, Bistro Burger has upgraded their appearance taking it from a colorful and fun style with multi-colored murals on concrete walls to a more polished look featuring exposed brick, polished wood and plush seating.
While modernizing to offer an expanded range of options, they have kept enough classics on the menu to keep old fans happy. Don't take our word for it, go to the new and improved Bistro Burger and see for yourself.
