Jason Licker knows a thing or two about pastry. The Iron Chef Thailand Pastry Edition champion and 2017 James Beard Award nominee will be taking over afternoon tea and the dessert dinner menu at Highline this May.
His visit to Shanghai is actually a return; he worked as executive pastry chef at the Westin Bund Center Shanghai. Licker incorporates a variety of spices, ingredients and techniques into his original desserts acquired from time spent in places such as Macau, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
At dinner you can choose from five different desserts at RMB88 each. Expect flavors such as matcha, black sesame and yuzu to make an appearance. We have our eye on the matcha tart and mandarin black sesame mousse, in particular. Afternoon tea includes six special bites like Thai tea puffs, matcha 'oreos' and 'pop rock' lollipops plus tea or coffee for RMB148 per person.
Not only do you get a chance to try some of these yummy sounding treats, but you can meet the chef in person and buy signed copies of his cookbook. Lickerland is in the running for two awards at the upcoming Gourmand Cookbook Awards held in Yantai, China.
After the pop-up, Highline will be keeping Licker's desserts through the entire month of May. In case you didn't know, they quietly launched an afternoon tea set for RMB288 for two people available Monday-Friday from 2:30-5pm.
Jason Licker will be taking over Highline's afternoon tea from 2:30-5pm on May 9-11 and dinner desserts from 5:30-10:30pm on May 9-12. See event listing here.
