Jan 9-14: Riverdance
This
theatrical performance-turned international phenomenon celebrates 20
years of bringing Irish music culture to the world. A showcase of
traditional Irish music and stepdancing, Riverdance has been seen by
over 25 million people and is one of the most successful dance shows of
all time. Don't miss your chance to catch it in Shanghai.

Jan 11: Limousine & Guests
Shanghai-based
rock band Limousine, who have a fresh line-up and new album
forthcoming, plays Mao Livehouse. Fellow Shanghai bands Dahaha and
Baozouwoniu perform in support. Cover price includes a drink.

Jan 11: Billy Branch
Harmonica player and Chicago blues legend Billy Branch comes to Shanghai
for a special performance at JZ Club. The three-time Grammy nominee
performed with the Chicago Blues All-Stars and is now touring China with
a band of local musicians, including guitarist Wei Wei and drummer Wu
Zhijun.

Jan 11: Alphabet: Green Drinks January Film Screening
Environmentally-focused nonprofit Green Drinks hosts this film screening of Alphabet,
a documentary that examines the modern education system and how it may
squelch out the imagination and independent thought of potentially
brilliant children. Snacks and beverages will be served.

Jan 12: Gemini, Ai Ninomiya & Re-Trick
This
triple billing brings together three eclectic jazz and hip-hop
crossover artists from Japan. Jazzy pop band Gemini, which is populated
by veteran musicians from other bands like re:plus, is joined by mellow
hip-hop vocalist Ai Ninomiya and jazz fusion trio Re-Trick. Donít miss
this unique show at Mao Livehouse.

Jan 12: LGBTIQ+ Community Kickoff
This community event and info session brings together queer organizations from all around Shanghai for a discussion about involvement and volunteer opportunities within the Shanghai’s queer community. It’s a bilingual event, with free food and drinks on offer. Attending organizations include White Castle, Daliah, Lifeline Shanghai, ShanghaiPRIDE, CinemQ and SHQFF. The after-party goes down at Roxie.

Jan 12: Nur Jaber
The first party of the new year from longstanding local techno crew Asian Vibes features rising star techno producer Nur Jaber. Originally hailing from Beirut, she’s now based in Berlin and is gaining recognition for her rich and dance-friendly take on techno.

Jan 12-13: Dwayne Perkins
NYC-born
comic Dwayne Perkins got his start in the industry while living in
Boston, then went on to perform in independent films Barstow 2008 and
The Gristle. He's also performed stand-up everywhere from Comedy Central
to the Hong Kong Comedy Festival. Catch his latest Shanghai show at
Kung Fu Comedy.

Jan 12-13: Shadow Land
This innovative stage production uses human dancers as shadow puppets to
tell the story of a teenage girl who one night gets stuck in the
surreal "land of shadows," a mysterious and seductive alternate
universe. The show is performed by New Hampshire-based dance troupe
Pilobolus.

Jan 13-14: theINSIDER
PARKLU, a major Chinese shopping platform, hosts its sixth private shopping event this weekend. The two dozen brands on offer include NYC street-style brand Botkier, Hong Kong fashion label The9thMuse, XINLELU.COM, Azoya, and SJDZ. Last year’s event attracted over 2,500 shoppers, with more than 100 China social media KOLs in attendance. Tickets are limited, so register early to ensure access.

Jan 14: Cicada
This unique classical band from Taiwan makes elegant and atmospheric
music comprised of a violin, cello, acoustic guitar, and piano. Their
latest album, White Forest, portrays the relationship with humans and
the natural world, from coral reefs to sea turtles to cats and birds.
