Runner Dies After Collapsing During Shanghai Half Marathon

A 30-year-old runner died after collapsing during Shanghai's inaugural Changning Half Marathon over the weekend.

The unidentified runner died after suffering from cardiac arrest, Shine reports.

Witnesses said the man fell to the ground just 120 meters away from the finish line at Shanghai Yan'an High School. Medical staff attended to the runner using an automatic external defibrillator (AED), but he never regained conciousness.

The first annual race featured 4,800 runners, including 4,500 running the 21km race and 300 participating in the 3km "mini marathon." Up to 110 medical staff and eight ambulances were on-site at the event.
