Oct 19: Balaio Invites Randy Brecker 

201709/randy-brecker.jpgFor this unique event at UNICO, China-based jazz band Balaio, a project composed of seasoned musicians who hail from Brazil, invites renowned jazz trumpeter Randy Brecker to perform with them, combining their unique takes on Brazilian-inflected jazz music. Cover charge includes one fruit caipirinha for ladies and DJ set by DJ Zulu to follow the performance.

Oct 20: Cotton Club Reunion Show

201710/cotton-club.JPG1.jpgThough Shanghai jazz institution Cotton Club closed its doors for the last time on March 25 of this year, its memory remains in the minds of the musicians who played there and cultivated the local jazz scene over the last 19 years. The Pearl hosts this reunion show, in which Cotton Club regulars who are still based in Shanghai come together and perform in memory of the essential local spot. Oct 20: Another Story

Originally formed in 2008 as a trio, Another Story has steadily grown in both popularity and personel. Now a five-piece, the screamo band seamlessly blends Japanese and Western rock music into a hybrid blend of post-hardcore, cataloguing their sound with a steady stream of releases from 2013-2015. Their stop in Shanghai is part of an intimate two-date China tour.

Oct 21: St.Ol.En

Dubbed as "six unruly kids playing punk", St.Ol.En tour in support of their latest EP, Why We Choose to Die in Berlin. Hailing from Chengdu, their brand of punk is of an electo-influenced styling that begs a listen.

Oct 22: Sparrow

Fronted by Jason Zumpano of the 90s power pop band of the same name, Sparrow is a Canadian indie pop band that started out as an instrumental band with a piano, violin and cello before expanding with the inclusion of other instrumentalists and vocals. Released in August, the band will tour in support of their Lost Mind EP.
