Daily Until Sep 24: Shanghai Queer Film Festival

This week-long festival presents a series of films and discussions at venues throughout the city, all of which explore different facets of the queer experience. Highlights include a screening of classic queer Chinese film Lan Yu, a lesbian night with a screening of Japanese indie film Starting Over, and an Indian queer film showcase in collaboration with KASHISH Mumbai Intentional Queer Film Festival. Sep 18: Bohemian Betyars

This self-described “speed-folk freak-punk” band from Hungary brings their mix of punk, ska and psychedelic music to Shanghai for a Monday night show at Yuyintang.

Sep 20: Urban Spirit

Daily Vinyl hosts this free mid-week party at UNICO Shanghai, where DJ B-Side will spin a “compilation of the trendiest urban vibes,” with Daily Vinyl founder Endy Chen in support.

Sep 21: 2017 NHL China Games Shanghai

NHL Games Shanghai

For the first time ever, two NHL pre-season games will be held in China this fall. The Shanghai game pits the Los Angeles Kings, who will be serving as the home team, against the Vancouver Canucks. The NHL is also using the visit to promote youth hockey throughout the nation and its schools.

Sep 21-22: CHina CHat

CHina CHat is a two day event dedicated to WeChat and online social media in China. With top industry speakers and experts from across the mainland, the conference includes guest speakers, panel discussions, in-depth workshops and the latest social product/service demos. Co-organised by two of the most widely respected online sources for WeChat information (ChinaChat and WalktheChat), this event promises to be full of insight and timely information.

Sep 21-23: Paul Taylor

Paul Taylor at Kung Fu Komedy Club Shanghai

Comedian Paul Taylor is a bilingual Brit based in Paris who quit his corporate job in 2015 to pursue stand-up. He brings his show to #Franglais, which is performed half in English and half in French, to Shanghai for a three-night stint at Kung Fu Komedy.

Sep 21-Oct 2: Songs from Above

Songs from Above at Shanghai Children Arrt Theatre

Danish company Teater Refleksion presents this show aimed at children aged 2-5. Delicate, calming puppetry and object animation come together to offer gentle moments of exploration and discovery for small children in a safe and stimulating environment.

Sep 23: Hanna Turi

 Hanna Turi at Bandai Namco Shanghai Base

Swedish singer-songwriter Hanna Turi, who deals in lovely and delicate piano songs about love and loss, comes to Shanghai for a show at Bandai Namco’s Future house. The show is part of an expansive China tour throughout the month of September.

Sep 24: Against the Current

Against the Current at Bandai Namco Shanghai Base

American pop-rock band Against the Current return to Shanghai for a show at Bandai Namco’s Dream Hall. The Poughkeepsie-based trio found fame originally by posting their videos on YouTube, and then went on to release several hit pop songs. This tour is promote their debut full-length album, In Our Bones

Sep 24: ElEfante 5th Anniversary Ibiza Party

Long before it got its club-island reputation, back in the 1980s, Ibiza - specifically the Balearic Island - was a popular destination for other party goers: hippies. ElEfante pays tribute to the history of the island where music, fashion and food were the key elements of that revolutionary time with their 5th Anniversary party this coming Sunday.

Sep 23-24: SIP

SIP at the McKinnon Hotel Shanghai

The people behind Shanghai Supperclub and FEAST debut their latest concept, SIP, this month at the McKinnon Hotel rooftop. A cocktail-focused festival that brings together 10 of the city’s best bartenders to showcase their drinks and spread knowledge about mixology, the event will also feature bar bites from around the city, and limited edition Master Classes on offer. Cover price includes a welcome drink.
