These Shanghai Streets Will Close on Sunday for a Parade

This weekend sees the return of the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival. But along with the celebrations come some street closures to accommodate the parade, which is set to take place on Sunday evening.

The parade will kick off at 7.30pm on Sunday.

The route will mainly affect a busy section of Huaihai Zhong Lu and surrounding streets. While vehicles will not be entirely forbidden to enter this area, motorists will be unable to make use of the main road whether connecting, crossing or otherwise.

Starting from 5pm until 10.30pm, motorists will find pedestrians given priority in a closure area that stretches across Yan’an Lu, Taicang Lu, Xizang Nan Lu and Huangpi Nan Lu. Bus routes will also be diverted due to the intended parade route.

Plan accordingly for Sunday by taking a look at this handy map of street closures via SHINE:

On top of this, police have stated that from 5pm to 9.30pm, vehicles may also be banned from accessing Jinling Zhong Lu between Xizang Nan Lu and Huangpi Nan Lu and Changle Lu between Chongqing Zhong Lu and Shaanxi Nan Lu.

More closures will affect Longmen Lu between Jinling Zhong Lu and Huaihai Zhong Lu until 5am next Monday, while all vehicles will be banned from Huaihai Zhong Lu between Xizang Nan Lu and Chongqing Nan Lu and Liulin Lu from between Jinling Zhong Lu and Taicang Lu starting from 8.30am on Friday until 1am on Saturday.

Finally, restrictions also apply to the off-ramp to Huaihai Zhong Lu from the North-South Elevated Road, which will be held in place from 7.30pm to 10.30pm on Sunday.

While all these closures are in place, the police remind that all traffic bans are subject to changes what with the scale of the parade and the logistics that follow such a large event.

This year's Tourism Festival lasts from September 10 to October 6.
