Until Sep 10: Grand Millennium Shanghai Hongqiao Beer Festival
The Grand Millennium Shanghai Hongqiao hotel hosts this end-of-summer shindig on their Garden Pavilion to get you geared up for the fall season. Over the course of 10 days, the event features a live band, German specialty dishes from guest chef Jochen Padburg, beer drinking competitions and a great selection of German and regional brews.

Sep 8: Bling Bling Night
Every Friday throughout the month of September, Wanda Reign on the Bund Hotel hosts this party series at their newly-opened restaurant and champagne lounge, Ruiku. Visit the 21st floor venue and indulge in the glamorous theme, with special performances all month by versatile and charismatic American vocalist Kevin Maxim.

Sep 8-9: Lotus Rouge
Head over to Bar Rouge for a weekend of gambling along the Bund at this vintage-casino themed event on Friday and Saturday. Play against the bank to get a Black Jack, gamble your drinks at the roulette table and test your luck by spinning the wheel of fortune. Dress code is 1930s chic with a hint of red.

Sep 8: Free the Robots
Los Angeles-based producer Free the Robots blends instrumental hip-hop with elements of jazz and psychedelia. He’s worked with Flying Lotus and Afrika Bambaataa and released his latest album, a collaboration with Belgian producer Lefto inspired by their constant touring, earlier this year. Catch his set at Dada.

Sep 8: Love Bang Soundsystem
DJ Caution and Heatwolves bring you hip hop, club tracks, R&B and surreal times this Friday night at Le Baron. Expect blends of the latest hits with throwbacks and original edits. Turn up early for more soulful beats from YANRAN. No cover, but email holler@lovebanguniverse.com before 6pm on Friday to get on the guest list. (Must show up before midnight).

Sep 9-10: Ultra China
Coming to Chinese mainland for the first time, worldwide EDM festival Ultra arrives in Shanghai over this coming weekend. Starting out in Miami nearing 20 years ago, the festival has grown just as the genre has over the last couple of decades, so much so that by the end of 2018 the festival will have taken place in 23 countries across six continents. Headliners playing in Shanghai include Martin Garrix, The Chainsmokers, Armin van Buuren and Zedd, to name a few.

Sep 9: Optimo
Longstanding Scottish DJ duo Optimo ran their party series of the same name out of Sub Club in Glasgow from 1997 to 2010, hosting an eclectic slew of notable guests, from LCD Soundsystem to Hot Chip, and famously never adhering to any kind of music policy so that no two sets were ever the same. The duo perform at Dada as part of a China tour just a few weeks after throwing a major festival in Glasgow in honor of the 20th anniversary of their club night.

Sep 9: The Rooster's Second Year Anniversary
After their move from Yongkang Lu, The Rooster is celebrating its second birthday with some drinks offers that will be hard to say no to. With three free kegs to get through and free shots of Jameson accompanying the barrels until they run dry, more surprises and other deals are planned on an evening that kicks off at 4pm. The inevitable hangover will be totally worth it!

Sep 9: Shyboi
Shyboi is a New York-based DJ and multidisciplinary artist of Jamaican descent who is part of queer NYC collective #KUNQ and has collaborated with other underground artists like Venus X. She has performed at Boiler Room, and deals in electronic music that grapples with ideas about identity and power.

Sep 14: Lady Ipanema
Kicking off an entire week of special events, UNICO is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Getting proceedings underway is their Lady Ipanema night which brings the festival atmosphere of Brazil to UNICO with Brazilian jazz and Bossanova music from the Tempero Brasil Live Trio, DJ Zulu on the desks as well as live Batucada and Samba dancers. Free flow for the ladies also runs from 9-10pm.
