Until Sep 10: Grand Millennium Shanghai Hongqiao Beer Festival
The Grand Millennium Shanghai Hongqiao hotel hosts this end-of-summer shindig on their Garden Pavilion to get you geared up for the fall season. Over the course of 10 days, the event features a live band, German specialty dishes from guest chef Jochen Padburg, beer drinking competitions and a great selection of German and regional brews.

Sep 7: Hang on the Box
Symbolizing the rise of counterculture in late 90s China, Hang on the Box are back! With the release of their first album in four years, the legendary Beijing punk band are set to rip up the stage at the Modern Sky Lab — figuratively, we imagine.

Sep 8: Bling Bling Night
Every Friday throughout the month of September, Wanda Reign on the Bund Hotel hosts this party series at their newly-opened restaurant and champagne lounge, Ruiku. Visit the 21st floor venue and indulge in the glamorous theme, with special performances all month by versatile and charismatic American vocalist Kevin Maxim.

Sep 8: Free the Robots
Los Angeles-based producer Free the Robots blends instrumental hip-hop with elements of jazz and psychedelia. He’s worked with Flying Lotus and Afrika Bambaataa and released his latest album, a collaboration with Belgian producer Lefto inspired by their constant touring, earlier this year. Catch his set at Dada.

Sep 8-10: The Expat Show Shanghai 10th Anniversary
The Expat Show Shanghai is back and celebrating its 10th anniversary. With more than 150 exhibitors expected, there will be something for everyone here with representatives from various sectors ranging from food and beverage, education, health, lifestyle, tourism and more.

Sep 8-10: PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai
Maturing into its fourth year, PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai returns to stake its claim as one of the largest photography art fairs in China. Works at the show will be representing 14 countries from across 40 galleries during the expo, with photographers such as Richard Misrach, Jeff Brouws and Paulette Tavormina having their work displayed for the first time in China.

Sep 9: Shyboi
Shyboi is a New York-based DJ and multidisciplinary artist of Jamaican descent who is part of queer NYC collective #KUNQ and has collaborated with other underground artists like Venus X. She has performed at Boiler Room, and deals in electronic music that grapples with ideas about identity and power.

Sep 9: Shanghai SIPG vs Tianjin Teda
After running riot and thrashing Guangzhou Evergrande 4-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final, Shanghai SIPG will be hoping to carry on in the same way against Tianjin Teda back in the domestic league. The last time these two teams met, SIPG managed a 1-0 away win. No doubt Tianjin Teda will be looking for revenge.

Sep 9-10: Ultra China
Coming to Chinese mainland for the first time, world-wide EDM festival Ultra arrives in Shanghai over this coming weekend. Starting out in Miami nearing 20 years ago, the festival has grown just as the genre has over the last couple of decades, so much so that by the end of 2018 the festival will have taken place in 23 countries across six continents. Headliners playing in Shanghai include Martin Garrix, The Chainsmokers, Armin van Buuren and Zedd, to name a few.

Sep 9-10: St. Petersburg Eifman Ballet: Anna Karenina
This classic ballet by famed Russian choreographer Boris Eifman focuses on the love story and eroticism between Anna and Vronsky from the famed novel, and is renowned as a modern masterpiece.
