Right on time for the onset of stretchy pants weather, Beef & Liberty is ushering its second born store into the world. Situated just shy of Huaihai Zhong Lu in the K Wah Centre on Xiangyang Bei Lu, Beef & Liberty the younger is exactly like the original one in the Shanghai Centre, apart from the fact that it's much bigger.
Literally, three times the size of the old place.
Fitted out with an enormous bar at the focus, the décor memo is along the lines of Rocky Horror meets roller disco, with fancy ox blood marble tables and brushed gold accents because, well, Shanghai. Proprietor Will Bray tells us a Tuesday to Sunday happy hour is destined for said bar, and equates to RMB38 drinks from 3-8pm. Like first branch, they'll also have their buy-one-get-one-free burger deal on every Monday.
The menu is identical to the original branch, and while they're changing it up in October, our list of regular orders are repping strong on the menu.
Don't sleep on the black pepper beef burger (RMB98).
Bacon cheeseburger (RMB98) with actual smoked, crispy bacon and none of that Hormel Value crap.
Mac 'n' cheese bites with pesto dip (RMB48).
Milkshakes so thick the straw stands up unassisted (RMB55, matcha left, vanilla ginger right).
Warm dark chocolate cookie skillet (RMB58) – OK, this is just turning into gratuitous food porn now.
Oreo shot (chocolate espuma [read: foam], vanilla ice cream and cookie crumble, RMB30) for those who want something sweet but don't want to commit to heftier offerings.
And to end the food porn deluge, a money shot of bannoffee pie (RMB48), AKA the best dish we British ever invented. Suck it, fish 'n' chips.
Have at it starting from today (Friday, September 8.)
